Description

This solicitation is to serve as a seed project for the Daniel Boone National Forest Road Construction MATOC, North Zone.

Solicitation NO: 12445123R0009

This project corrects road settlement issues by constructing a new retaining wall to replace the failing

wall. The project is necessary to maintain safe public access to the Bee Rock campground to comply

with the Highway Safety Act and correct non-point source soil erosion to comply with the Clean Water

Act. The work will remove and replace the failing retaining wall at the site. The final wall type selected

will be based on collected geotechnical data. The proposed wall type may be either gabion,

mechanically stabilized earth, permanent ground anchor, reinforced concrete, soil nail, reinforced soil

slopes, micropiles, or other wall systems. The design and implementation of the selected slide repair,

including any proposed alternatives, shall be in accordance with the U.S. Department of Transportation

Standard Specifications for Construction of Roads and Bridges on Federal Highway Projects FP-14, the

USDA Forest Service Supplemental Specifications and roadway standards and the AASHTO Guidelines for

Geometric Design of Very Low-Volume Local Roads.

The work will extend 250-ft each direction from the midpoint of failure along the centerline. The work

on the fill slope (south side) of road will extend 75-ft from the centerline ending at toe of slope.

Roadway asphalt within this area shall be overlaid and any sub-base disturbed shall be reconstructed

and asphalt 8-2-1 shall be laid. No work is planned on the cut slope (north side) of the road will extend

up slope.

Fill will be imported from commercial rock quarries. Spoils will be hauled off-site and disposed of on

private lands outside of the floodplain. Any stockpiling of materials will be done immediately adjacent

to the roadway limits (i.e. along the flat shoulders and/or existing roadway).

Unless otherwise provided in the Contract Documents, the Contractor shall provide and pay for labor,

materials, equipment, tools, transportation, and other facilities and services necessary for proper

execution and completion of the Work.
